West Bali gets a US$66.7m fishing port as Benoa turns to tourism

On 29 September ground was broken for a modern fishing port in Pengambengan, Jembrana regency, in west Bali. The budget is Rp 1.2 trillion (about US$66.7 million).
The marine affairs minister expects about 25,000 jobs and wants Balinese workers hired first. All port businesses will be connected to a shared wastewater treatment plant.
Fishing is moving out of Benoa: south Bali's main port is being repurposed for tourism.
What it means for buyers: Jembrana is the quiet and still inexpensive west of the island, and new jobs may lift demand there. But this is a long-term project — buy land "near the port" only after checking the zoning, and do not count on quick price growth.
