Canggu club faces questions over whether it sits on protected rice fields

Residents of Canggu complain about The Maha club on Jalan Pantai Batu Mejan: music until 4 am can be heard within a 50-metre radius, Radar Bali reported.
Residents suspect the club sits on protected rice field land (LSD), where such buildings are not allowed. They are asking the Badung authorities to check the land, permits and opening hours.
The club's lawyers disagree. They say there are no homes within 50 metres, only businesses, and that sound is limited by a control system. Noise and land zoning, they argue, are separate issues that should not be mixed without verification. No official inspection has taken place yet.
What it means for buyers: before buying in Canggu, check the zoning of your plot and the plots next to it. Protected rice fields (LSD) cannot be built on. A noisy bar or club nearby also hurts rental income, so walk the street in the evening.
