Bali's tax office is checking villas on Airbnb
The provincial tax office is checking private villas rented out through Airbnb and similar sites.
The governor wants every operator without a licence taken off the platforms. The deadline to get licensed was the end of March. Violators face legal action. The province is also working with the platforms on collecting the Love Bali levy.
What it means for buyers: renting out a villa without a licence is getting risky. If you buy to rent, include the licence and taxes in your costs from day one. Also ask the management company how it handles the paperwork.
